What is Life?, February 5, 2019 Black History Month Devotional

Today's Black History Month Devotional is "WHAT IS LIFE?"
 By Clairmont Humphrey

"You don’t know what will happen tomorrow.
What is life?
You are a mist that is seen for a moment and then disappears."
 James 4:14

She left him home for about two hours, came back home and there he was sitting in the same position as she left him. She said,"Hi." He did not respond: only to realize he was gone- he was only 40 years old. Just two hours ago he was full of life, talking, laughing, and now he is gone.

We live as though we have forever..  We make plans for our future and yes we should- but do we really have forever to live? We are placed on this beautiful earth to live with purpose and fulfill our destiny, yet for the most part, many of us live without purpose- "whatever will be, let it be". Some of us plan and have great plans for our future but never planned for the life after. No one wants to think about it but it is part of our reality.  Where will you spend your eternity?

In Philippians1:21 Paul said, "To live is Christ but to die is gain." In other words, Christ should mean everything to us in this life and when we die, we will have even more. Living with Christ leading and directing our lives is more meaningful and fulfilling, knowing that we can live a life with inner peace regardless of the storms and trials around us because His grace is empowering.

  1. That is so true sometimes we are like a humming bird flying from 1 tree to the next never stopping to pause and say what have I accomplished with my time here on earth whose life have I touched or made an impact on who have I said to God loves you have I spoken the word to anyone as I was called to do by Christ.

  2. Thanks for your comment Jane. A hummingbird is a great analogy.
